The Lady Chapel

Painting of the Annunciation in the Lady Chapel, St Osmunds ChurchIn this Chapel the Blessed Sacrament is reserved, for the ministry to the sick and house-bound. We ask our visitors to respect the silence in this Chapel, and to take a moment to offer prayer.

To the left of the Lady Chapel Sanctuary there is the beginning of a list of former priests and others ... it did not get very far!

There is a striking painting of the Annunciation on the wall beneath the windows, thought to be a copy.

Before leaving the Lady Chapel it is worth looking up at the roof to admire the very fine brick vaulting with stone groin ribs.  Then go through the door at the far end, back into the main church.

Statue of The Blessed Virgin Mary in St Osmunds Church

Just outside to the right is a lovely statue of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus.  The statue depicts Mary as the ‘new Eve’, crushing the serpent underfoot, as it attempts to slither away with its tempting apple!

Close-by is the nearest we have to an ‘ancient parish chest’, but there are no valuables therein.
